A few years back, I realised that most skincare training courses were just teaching a specific skincare treatment... dermaplaning, chemical peels, microneedling, or something else.
The big problem here is that the students attending those courses aren't necessarily being taught how to actually solve people's skincare problems. They are simply being taught how to deliver that treatment, regardless of the client's specific facial problems.
The students would leave the training qualified in that specific treatment - but without a deep understanding of the skin, the different underlying skin problems people can have, & which other treatments might better suit that person's problems... the students can actually cause more damage than good to their clients face.
At Model Standards, we never let clients choose which treatment they want. We explain that we must assess their skin first, then we prescribe a specific treatment which will fix the problems they're suffering from.
And because we get AMAZING results... people started asking us if we could train them in our processes & treatments.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
You need accredited training from a recognised provider — not a university degree. Most working skincare specialists hold VTCT Level 3 or Level 4 qualifications, which can be completed through intensive training in as little as 5 days. MSTA's Level 3 Aesthetic Skincare For Beginners course qualifies you in all four core treatments and is Ofqual-regulated and VTCT-approved.
Self-employed skincare specialists in the UK charging £60–£150 per treatment can realistically earn £50,000–£100,000+ per year, depending on their location, niche and hours worked. Many MSTA graduates have built businesses to this range, and beyond, within 6–24 months of qualifying through MSTA.
Skincare specialists perform non-medical treatments including facials, dermaplaning, chemical peels, microneedling, extractions, LED light therapy, mask peels, and skin consultations. MSTA's Aesthetic Skincare For Beginners course qualifies you in all of these in a single training programme — you don't need to pay for each treatment separately.
There's currently no legal requirement for most non-injectable skincare treatments in the UK. However, without a recognised accreditation / qualification, you won't be able to get professional insurance — and without insurance, you can't legally practise on paying clients. MSTA's courses are Ofqual-regulated and VTCT-approved, which means you're fully insurable from day one.
They're essentially the same role — just different spellings. "Aesthetician" is the UK spelling, "esthetician" is the American version. Both refer to a trained skincare professional who performs non-medical treatments like facials, chemical peels, microneedling, and dermaplaning. MSTA's training qualifies you for this role regardless of which term you use.
It depends on the route you choose. A 'traditional ' college route can take 1-2 years. Modern intensive courses can qualify you in a matter of months, through a combination of online & in-person learning. MSTA's flagship course runs with intensive online theory followed by 5 days of hands-on training with live models, and you leave with a VTCT-accredited qualification, insurance eligibility, and the skills to start practising immediately.
Absolutely. The majority of MSTA's 1,000+ past students had zero prior experience in beauty or skincare before they trained. Our Aesthetic Skincare For Beginners course is specifically designed for career changers — whether you're coming from teaching, retail, healthcare, or any other background. No previous qualifications are required.
MSTA courses are Ofqual-regulated and VTCT-approved — meaning your qualification is nationally recognised and government-backed. Our flagship Aesthetic Skincare For Beginners course qualifies you in dermaplaning, chemical peels, microneedling, extractions, mask peels, and skin consultation. You'll be eligible for full professional insurance upon completion.
MSTA graduates receive a 16-week post-qualification coaching programme, full access to our Business School for Skincare Professionals, and lifetime membership of the Estiworld Community — which includes monthly live calls with industry leading brands and industry influencers, such as SkinPen, Dermaceutic, Dermalogica, Savanna Boda, and many more. Yes. Many skincare specialists currently work from a dedicated treatment/clinic room at home. Local councils have different requirements regarding your place of work, when performing treatments like microneedling. But thousands of professionals around the UK operate from a home-based clinic. MSTA's post-course Business School teaches you how to attract clients and build a sustainable business from wherever you choose to work.
