Our story

It started with one clinic on Rodney Street.

In 2014, our founder Kirsty Stevenson opened the Model Standards Skincare Clinic on Rodney Street, Liverpool’s historic medical street. The clinic earned a reputation for one thing: results-led skin work, done properly.

Clients kept asking the same question: who trains you? So in 2018, the Model Standards Training Academy was born. A medic-led academy where the standards of the clinic became the standards of the classroom.

Since then, more than 1,000 students have trained with us and over 500 careers have been launched, from our two academies in Liverpool city centre. You still train in real clinic conditions, on real clients, because that is where real confidence comes from.

Day to day

What a training day in Liverpool actually looks like.

Forget lecture theatres. Training happens in small cohorts, inside working clinic spaces, with educators who still treat clients every week.

01

Morning: coffee and theory

You start the day with your cohort and your educator. Skin science, anatomy and the protocols behind the treatments you'll deliver that afternoon. Small groups, lots of questions, no lecture-hall energy.

02

Demonstration on real skin

Your educator, a working clinician, demonstrates the full treatment on a real model. You watch the consultation, the technique and the clinical reasoning up close.

03

Afternoon: hands-on practice

Then it's your turn. You treat real clients under close supervision, in real clinic conditions. This is where confidence is actually built, and it's why students travel so far to train here.

04

Debrief, then the city is yours

You finish with a debrief: what went well, what to refine, what's coming tomorrow. Then the evening is yours, and Liverpool does evenings very well.

Travelling in

Four in five students travel to us. Here’s how.

If you’ve been searching for skincare courses near you and keep landing on Liverpool, there’s a reason. Students come to us from every corner of the UK, and getting here is easier than you’d think.

By train

Liverpool Lime Street has direct trains from most major UK cities, and Rodney Street is a short walk from the station. Chapel Street sits five minutes from Moorfields, right in the business district.

By air

Liverpool John Lennon Airport serves domestic and European routes, with Manchester Airport also within easy reach. From either, you can be in the city centre without any fuss.

Staying over

Most travelling students book a few nights nearby and make a week of it. We have accommodation recommendations close to both academies, including partner hotels with discounted rates for MSTA students. Just ask the team.

Training by day, the city by night: the docks, the food, the music. Most students tell us their training week felt like the best kind of getaway. One that changed their career.

A deliberate focus

Looking at beauty courses in Liverpool? Read this first.

Liverpool has plenty of beauty schools covering nails, lashes and make-up. MSTA is not one of them, on purpose. We do one thing: skin. Advanced facials, chemical peels, microneedling, dermaplaning, and the clinical knowledge to use each one safely and brilliantly.

That focus matters, because skin is where the industry is going. In 2025, skincare sales outsold make-up for the first time ever, and clients everywhere are looking for trained, insured professionals who can deliver real results.

So if you’re weighing up beauty courses, ask yourself which skill you want to be known for. If the answer is skin, you’re in the right place. Start with our complete beginners pathway or explore our Ofqual-regulated VTCT qualifications, all taught here in Liverpool.

Five-star Google review for MSTA from Collette Smith
Collette Smith left a five-star Google review for MSTA, Milele Skin: “Had such an amazing week with MSTA. My trainers were Jemma and Hollie - they were so knowledgable and patient, always willing to help. At the start of the week I was a complete beginner with no confidence and by the end I felt comfortable/confident in what I had learnt. I can't wait to get my skin care business up and running and hopefully return back to MSTA for future education and training. Thank you girls xxx

Five-star Google review for MSTA from Felicity Burgin
Felicity Burgin left a five-star Google review for MSTA, Penelope Skin Clinic: “I came to MSTA with no real experience in the skin care world but very keen to get started and having just completed my level 3 with them I've already booked level 4 because I was so happy with the training received. Not only are the lady's all extremely knowledgeable and professional but they're all so friendly, kind and helpful. They all genuinely want to see you do well and are there to support you every step of the way. I've trained in different areas of the beauty industry before and can honestly say the experience and level of dedication from MSTA is on another level. I'm very excited to go on to do level 4 and then hopefully all the levels available after that. Thank you to everyone on the team for making this journey so enjoyable and exciting. See you all again soon, felicity x

Five-star Google review for MSTA from Kirby Timmins
Kirby Timmins left a five-star Google review for MSTA: “I cannot give this course enough stars! The training, knowledge, confidence and new lease of life it has given me is honestly incredible. I first spoke to Kirsty in 2024, again in 2025 and finally took the plunge in 2026 and I only wish I had done it sooner. Keji is one of the most insightful, thorough trainers I have ever met. Her knowledge is second to none, and the support she has continued to give me even after completing the course is something I'll always be grateful for. The world truly needs more women like her. MSTA is so much more than just a training academy. It provides guidance, business advice, ongoing support, and a genuine community that wants to see you succeed. I honestly couldn't recommend it enough.
Five-star Google review for MSTA from Deb Ho
Deb Ho left a five-star Google review for MSTA, Skin Essential: “Amazing week which has given me the knowledge, confidence and skills to persue my career in skin care. The girls at MSTA are so knowledgeable, and friendly and put you at ease whether you are starting out or already experienced. Thank you, MSTA for igniting a new passion in me.

Five-star Google review for MSTA from Hayley Collins
Hayley Collins left a five-star Google review for MSTA: “I trained with MSTA just over a year ago, on their 5 day advanced skin specialist course. After having my little girl I really wanted to carve out a career for myself which offered work life balance, something I struggled to find being employed, this is honestly the best decision I could have made for myself and my family. I now have a flexible work life and I am fully present in my family life too. The course was thorougher and really enjoyable, the team at MSTA make you feel really comfortable and at ease and the support post course has been exceptional. I would recommend this course to anyone looking to train in skin and get into the beauty industry
Five-star Google review for MSTA from Amy Fairclough
Amy Fairclough left a five-star Google review for MSTA, Studio Glow: “I trained with MSTA in March 2025 after deciding it was time for me to take the leap. The training was literally the best week ive ever had professionally and reinforced that I was at the right place at the right time for me. Hollie, Zo and Olivia were just the best. Nothing was a silly question, nothing was too mych trouble and they were our biggest cheerleaders the whole weel through. We even had a little pop in video from the gorgeous Kirsty to top the week off. From the day I started to now the support from the girls at MSTA and Estiworld has been unbelievable. They have pushed me to develop my business and pushed me to personally grow in confidence too (which is a task to take on). Kirsty and Jordan have continually worked relentlessly to provide easy to follow, clear processes designed to help you be the best that you can be and the fact that they are so approachable allows you to feel comfortable when you wobble, drop the ball or even in times of crisis with clients. I'm so pleased that I chose to invest in myself with the support of MSTA and I cant wait to grasp every learning opportunity they provide for me and my beautiful, developing business. Thank you all so much xx

Five-star Google review for MSTA from Sacha Horseman
Sacha Horseman left a five-star Google review for MSTA, Fake It Aesthetics Bristol: “Honestly one of the best companies I have trained with for anything. The support after is unlike anything I've ever received. You literally feel part of the family. I done my level 3 with MSTA and left feeling confident and supported. All the online support and video calls really help keep you on track and give guidance to running your new business. I feel so proud to be part of the MSTA family

Five-star Google review for MSTA from Melissa Baiz
Melissa Baiz left a five-star Google review for MSTA, Suco Skin: “I still remember my very first phone call with Kirsty, and taking the step to join the course. At the time it felt like the beginning of something, but I could never have imagined how much it would shape my journey. Today I have my own little brand something that started as a dream and is now growing into a business I'm incredibly proud of. It continues to evolve, transform, and teach me every day. I'm so grateful for the guidance, the inspiration, and the confidence it gave me to believe that I could build something of my own. This is just the beginning, and I'm excited to watch my little business keep growing

Skincare courses in Liverpool, answered.

Where in Liverpool are MSTA's academies?

We train across two city-centre academies. Our flagship is a Grade II listed building at 31 Rodney Street (L1 9EH), on Liverpool's historic medical street. Our city centre academy is at Ground Floor, Yorkshire House, 18 Chapel Street (L3 9AG), five minutes from both Moorfields and Lime Street stations.

Do students really travel to Liverpool to train?

Yes, constantly. Around 80% of MSTA students travel in from across the UK, from London to Scotland, and many make a week of it: training by day, enjoying the city by night. Liverpool Lime Street has direct trains from most major cities, and Liverpool John Lennon Airport is close by.

Where should I stay while I train?

We recommend staying in the city centre, within walking distance of both academies. The team keeps a list of recommended places to stay, including partner hotels that offer discounted rates for MSTA students, so ask us before you book.

Which skincare courses run in Liverpool?

All of them. Every MSTA course is taught in Liverpool, from our flagship Aesthetic Skincare For Beginners pathway to VTCT qualifications spanning Levels 2 to 6, plus one and two-day executive courses for qualified professionals. Upcoming dates are listed on this page and on our course calendar.

Do you run beauty courses in Liverpool?

We specialise in skin. If you're searching for beauty courses in Liverpool, MSTA is the specialist option: advanced facials, chemical peels, microneedling, dermaplaning and clinical skin knowledge, rather than nails, lashes or make-up. It's a deliberate focus, and it's why our graduates are known for results-led skin work.

Do I need experience to start?

No. Most MSTA students start as complete beginners. Our Aesthetic Skincare For Beginners pathway assumes zero knowledge and covers all the skin theory, anatomy and physiology that underpin safe, confident practice.

How much do skincare courses in Liverpool cost?

Our flagship beginner pathway, Aesthetic Skincare For Beginners, is £6,000 + VAT (£7,200 all-in), with a £500 deposit to secure your place. Shorter executive and CPD courses have their own pricing, listed alongside each date on the course calendar.

What do MSTA graduates go on to do?

Our graduates work in clinics, salons and their own treatment rooms across the UK, delivering results-led skincare treatments. Practitioners typically charge £75 to £130 per treatment depending on where they are. You can meet real graduates and read their reviews further up this page.

Do you teach Botox or fillers?

No. MSTA trains Skincare Aestheticians, not injectors. We work at the intersection of skincare and aesthetics: advanced, results-led skin treatments that create natural, healthy results without needles or filler.

Liverpool is waiting.

The brochure covers the full pathway: the qualifications, the treatments, what a training week in Liverpool looks like and how to plan your stay. Get it in your inbox in the next two minutes.
