A microneedling treatment in progress at an MSTA training clinic

What is the Level 4 Award in Skin Needling?

Microneedling is one of the most in-demand treatments in UK clinics. This Level 4 Award takes it to a regulated standard: a qualification practitioners across the UK are increasingly investing in to deepen their clinical knowledge and strengthen their standing with insurers and premium device brands.

At MSTA you learn it the way we teach everything: the science of collagen induction first, then supervised hands-on treatments on real clients in our Liverpool clinics, using clinical-grade devices and protocols.

What the award covers

Collagen induction theory

How microneedling actually works: the wound-healing cascade, needle depths, and when needling is (and isn't) the right treatment.

Client selection & consultation

Assessing skin, managing contraindications and building treatment courses that deliver visible results safely.

Hands-on clinical practice

Supervised treatments on real clients, with clinical-grade devices, in real clinic conditions.

Aftercare & complications

Professional aftercare planning and knowing exactly what to do when skin doesn't behave as expected.

Who this qualification is for

This award is for practitioners ready to move into results-led, advanced skin work: therapists and aestheticians who hold a Level 3 aesthetics qualification and want microneedling in their treatment menu with a regulated credential behind it.

If you don't yet hold the Level 3, that's not a dead end: it's built into the same pathways, so we simply map your route through it first.

Sold at MSTA through our Skincare Learning Pathways:

Common questions

What do I need before starting?

A regulated Level 3 aesthetics qualification (such as the Certificate in Access to Aesthetic Therapies, which we also deliver). If you don't have it yet, both are built into our pathways in sequence.

Do I need a Level 4 qualification to practise microneedling?

Currently, you do not require a Level 4 qualification to professionally practise microneedling in the UK: with the right training, CPD certification and insurance, practitioners work confidently without one. With that said, practitioners around the UK are increasingly eager to invest in a Level 4 microneedling qualification to deepen their clinical knowledge, strengthen their standing with insurers and premium device brands, and stay ahead as the industry moves toward regulated standards.

Can I take this on its own?

We deliver it through our Skincare Learning Pathways, usually The Ultimate Skincare Professional for working therapists. A quick discovery call is the easiest way to map how the award fits your route.
