Long before Ami trained professionally, she was already the person her friends turned to for skincare advice. What she lacked wasn't passion or aptitude. It was the formal knowledge to turn instinct into practice.

“Skincare was always something I was really interested in. All my friends would come to me for advice. I’m a know-it-all, so I love to know everything, especially about things I’m passionate about!”

When she compared training providers, one distinction settled it.

“That’s what made me choose MSTA. I did lots of research and found so many courses that would teach me how to do treatments, but not the theory behind them. Helping clients with their skin was my priority, and I felt like this was the only course that would actually make that a reality.”

Taking the leap on maternity leave

The timing was, by any conventional measure, terrible. Which is exactly what makes what followed so impressive.

“My youngest daughter was only 8 weeks old, so I was super nervous to try something new. Plus, I worried about what people would think. You have to put yourself out there to reach new clients, and that was just so out of my comfort zone. But I knew this was my opportunity to turn my passion into a career.”

“I was worried about it being an oversaturated market. Competition made me doubt myself before I had even started! But I loved the course, and as soon as I finished, I got started. Because I found it all so interesting, it didn’t even feel like work.”

Building SKNN by Ami

The original plan was cautious: two days a week around maternity leave, building slowly. The plan did not survive contact with reality.

“That quickly changed. I never actually went back to my old job! I absolutely loved helping people make positive changes to their skin, and what once was just a hobby quickly became a career. When the opportunity came for me to open my own salon, I took the risk and it was the best decision I could have made. I’ve built my own clinic space, exactly how I imagined it would be, in a salon full of girls that inspire and support each other.”

The moment it all felt real

“When I had my first week of back-to-back clients in my dream space, the one I had created, that’s when I thought: wow, this is actually my life!”

How life has changed

Ask Ami what the career change actually bought her, and she doesn't talk about revenue. She talks about school sports days.

“I’m the parent I always wanted to be. I don’t have to miss sports days or request time off. I work around my family on the days I choose, in the salon that I (and my husband!) built, surrounded by other successful women, and have created a life I never imagined possible.”

Would she recommend the course?

“I would recommend the course to anyone who is genuinely considering a career in skin. It’s an investment in your future. You’ll walk away with the knowledge, tools, and kit to not just perform treatments, but actually set up a successful business. I don’t think there’s any other training provider that invests so much into their students. The ongoing support, the community, and the opportunity to connect with others for help and advice anytime is unmatched.”

Her only regret? “That I didn’t do it sooner!”
